The sensation of the first part of Bundesliga this season were certainly the debutants, Hoffenheim, led by three excellent Brazilian players, as well as equally important Bosnians, Vedad Ibisevic and Sejad Salihovic. The best striker in the first part of the season was Ibisevic with 18 goals scored and there would probably have been even more if he didn’t earn a serious injury that saw him out for the season. Vedad was the revelation of former PSG manager and Bosnian national squad boss, Vahid Halihodzic who is now the boss in Cote d’Ivorie national squad. Vedad came as an anonymous player to the French club where he didn’t manage to fight a starting berth After two years in second division club Dijon FCO, Vedad decided to continue his career in Alemannia from Aachen, where he didn’t stay long and after first part of the season moved to Hoffenheim took part in the historical success when his team got promoted to Bundesliga. After the autumn part of the season, Ibisevic was league’s top scorer with 18 goals, while he also assisted for seven other goals which drew attention of big European clubs.
Ibisevic’s companion in Hoffenheim is another Bosnian international, Sejad Salihovic who unlike Vedad took his first steps in Germany by the beginning of 2000. when he played in amateur clubs in Berlin. After three years Salihovic made his debut in Hertha jersey against Hamburger but after two unsuccessful seasons in Berlin, he decided to continue his career in Hoffenheim. Transfer to Hoffenheim turned out to be the right move for this midfielder, who after only one season in the club was the best Bundesliga 2 player rated by Kicker magazine. Sejad is great in organizing the play and does wonders with free-kicks which he confirmed in Hoffenheim, where he even earned the
captain armband.
Lead by the great expert Miroslav-Ciro Blazevic, Bosnia and Herzegovina national squad are currently fifth in the qualifying group for the World Cup, right behind the current European champions Spain. Bosnians are the most efficient team in their group with even 18 goals scored, five more than first-placed Spaniards and even twelve ahead of third Turkey that are fierce rivals in the qualifications. If Bosnia and Herzegovina reach their biggest success, the afore mentioned players will definitely take most credit as they have huge potential even though their price on the market is not so high.
