It is never an easy job to carry a burden of a famous name and, when you have an illustrious sibling such as football superstar Didier Drogba, people automatically expect you to live up to the expectations.
Although in the first part of the season he felt a minor blip in his form, since the arrival of Guus Hiddink, Didier has been in superb form partnered with Anelka proving everyone wrong and showing there is still time for him…His eruptive career has propelled him to the greatest of heights and Chelsea have been blessed to have him on board. This is something one’s own brother could be envious of…
As many other illustrious Ivorians, Didier made his first football steps in Youth Club Le Mans UC72 and his younger brother Joel did the same thing hoping to follow his brother’s footsteps. However he never succeeded in earning a spot in the first team and became a football world-traveler and, although only 21 years old,he played in Switzerland, Belgium, France, Croatia and most recently for the Ukranian team, Metalurg Donetsk.
Latest reports indicate that Joel has traveled to German side Arminia Bielefeld for trials and this could be his final chance to join his brother on the big scene. Joel Drogba will have one week to try and convince Bielefeld manager, Michael Frontzek, to sign him on, but this will be his second try-out in Germany after having gone to FC St Pauli three seasons ago and I am not quite sure he will meet Armenia expectations. People might tend to expect a lot from him since he has Drogba written on his back and that is not an easy prejudice to beat…
Having not seen the boy in action, I cannot say anything about his playing abilities, but one thing is definite, Joel will never match his older brother…
