The season has barely started and Blue-white fans already regret that Marko Pantelic left Berlin and want him back! Actually, the Berlin side struggled to reach the minimum win over Hannover and they did it thanks to Gojko Kacar. The fans booed striker Arthur Wischniarek off the pitch and then all 42 000 of them started shouting Marko Pantelic’s name.
Serbian international has been trying to convince the management to prolong the contract last year, but it was in vain, as coach Lucien Favre and sports manager Dieter Hoenes didn’t accept Pantelic’s terms and refused to pay him 2.5 million a year. So this Serbian striker played the last game in Berlin jersey against Schalke on May 15th, while Hertha fans already regret his departure and they furiously shouted his name demanding his return.
Marko Pantelic found out about the situation on the Olympic stadium in Berlin and said that he is glad to see the fans call his name, but he added that playing for Hertha is history and he is not even thinking about returning to the club.
„I have read on the Internet that the fans shouted my name during the match against Hannover. I’m glad to hear that, as it is a confirmation that I have left a trace in Hertha. The fans haven’t forgotten me, which is a big success for me. The crowd feels when the player gives his best for the club. However, Berlin is history for me and I will never play there again.”
In the interview for German media, Pantelic used the opportunity to ask the fans to show more patience for his heir Arthur Wischniarek:
„Arthur is a brave man and his return to Hertha after four years of wandering shows that he has character. Fans must appreciate such things and I think they should show a little patience” said Pantelic.
While he is waiting to sign the contract with his new club, Marko is practicing in Belgrade with Crvena Zvezda. Even though there is not much time till the closing of the transfer window, Pantelic hasn’t yet decided where he will continue his career.
“There are certain offers, official as well as unofficial. But, I don’t want to talk about that until I know the name of my new club for sure. The next contract might be my last one and that is why I don’t want to rush it” , explained Serbian international, who isn’t on Radomir Antic’s list for the game against South Africa.
