Werder had the luck to find Diego’s heir in their own home, young international Mesut Ozil. If you have ever seen him play, you must agree that this Turkish-born player took the best from both schools, fantastic in the midfield, he is also disciplined and devoted.
Ozil was crucial in winning the title on U21 European championship this summer. Precisely that was the detail that previous generations missed, a player that can solve a game with one single move.
Born in Gelsenkirchen, he moved from Schalke to Werder last year, which was the smart move of the “green” squad that were looking ahead and realised that they won’t be able to keep Diego.
Ozil’s position is offensive midfielder, but he can be a dangerous forward. He is very fast and easily solves one-on-one situations. German national squad usually lacks such players, so we expect him in Pantzer squad on the World Cup 2010. Schalke bought him for 5 million and he is worth twice as much.
There are some rumours that Bayern will try to sign him next summer, but Werder won’t give him up that easily. The player, himself is not in the mood for transfers as he thinks that he can profit the most from working with coach Schaaf who has been in Bremen for ten years now.
Ozil is the most talented German player at this point and the future of German football.
