The famous manager hasn’t been with Nottingham Forest for so long and the fans have already begun to protest over his several statements and over the way he leads their beloved team. The man who lead Preston through their double play-off (once even finals) campaign couple of years ago, and the man who brought Derby County in the Premiership from his first attempt, has been at the helm of Nottingham Forest since this January.
He is known to be a true expert for teams without genuine big stars on board, but also as the man who speaks his mind freely, he is also very concise and precise man. His odyssey with youbg and mostly inexperienced Forest went on to a great start. Forest notched up five straight wins with only one draw in all the competitions. As the cherry on top, his team managed to rule out Manchester City from FA Cup after an excellent 3-0 win in the middle of City of Manchester Stadium.
After that great, positive run, the reality came back knocking on City Ground Stadium’s gates because playing in Coca Cola Championship is not the type of a competition when you can do well by improvising with immature youngsters. Due to key players’ injuries, such as Robert Earnshaw, Paul Anderson, Guy Moussi and Julian Barnett, manager Billy Davies was forced to fill in the gaps in his squad by playing youngsters. New names have been added to the injury list these days, Nathan Tyson and Adam Newbold have picked up fresh injuries. And now, former European champions are searching someone to loan, but without results…
Forest are not cut out for high aims, we all knew that even before this season had started. they do not have a lot of players on board to choose from and most of them are too young and inexperienced. There is no one to replace injured players and it had an immense effect on the results. After their great run, Forest have won only a point over the next six league fixtures. Davies, who had been praising his team’s potentials before the season’s kick-off, has dug his own grave saying his scarce and “quality insufficient” squad is responsible for the poor form and announcing his potential departure if he doesn’t receive any support over the needed reinforcements. Fans remember his pre-season words and are confused now that he started saying completely different things and the tension began…
Fortunately, good results always calm things down. Forest have just taken three points away from Reading, who are one of the three main promotion candidates, beating them 1-0. At the same time, Billy Davies has discarded any insinuations about his premature departure focusing on the fact he came here to stay and do something.
He also repeated one unnecessary fact: wherever he had worked before, he hadn’t been on the best terms with the fans, but also that he didn’t come here to please a man or two, he came to make results. And it is always going to be like that…
