The race for promotion and the play-offs spot in Coca Cola Championship is heating up, and the gaps on the top and the bottom are closing up lately, while the world’s best second league enters another exciting finish. We should look into the ways for earning money by betting on so-called ante post betting.
It seems that many of the bookies are not quite clear about it and Coca Cola Championship fans might find some holes in the odds that online bookmakers offer for league winner, play-offs contender or the best scorer. Odds for main favourites are mostly similar and here are five typical mistakes bookies make:
1. Odds on Birmingham City to win Championship are around 5.00. As we see it, this is a fantastic chance to gain profit, as the bookies favour Reading and Wolverhampton at the moment and the odds are twice as lower. And also, they are forgetting some relevant facts. First of all, Birmingham have the strongest squad and financially second strongest team in the league, with a lot of experienced Premiership players (Kevin Phillips, James McFadden, Lee Bowyer, Lee Carsley, Marcus Bent, Djimi Traore, Hameur Bouazza, Franck Queudrue,…). Second of all, Blues boss Alex McLeish has achieved great things in every club he lead (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland national squad) but he came too late last season to prevent the relegation from the Premier League. And third and most important thing is that Birmingham have just gone through the toughest stage in the season and a deep crisis with only one win in six league games. And in spite of all that, thanks to their rivals’ mistakes, they managed to close the gap behind the Wolves on only three points with a game in hand and the long run of matches till the end will definitely see them play much better. Objectively, they can win the title…
2. Odds on QPR to enter play-offs are around 2.50. Perhaps you can find a better offer somewhere and perhaps the odds are not paying so well but it is a safe bet. QPR are currently owned by several elite magnates (80% is owned by Formula 1 magnates, Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone, and 20% of the shares are held by world’s biggest steel magnate, Lakshmi Mital). The team is extremely strong, a bit inexperienced for some major achievements but enough to get to play-offs. They didn’t impress with the results so far after the mistake of bringing Ian Dowie as manager. Still, ever since Paulo Sousa came on the bench, the Rangers stabilized and the results are better and better. With four points behind play-offs zone and very stable form they have a chance to grab the desired spot till the end of the season. They will hardly get promoted to the Premiership but they will at least, earn some precious experience.
3. Odds for Swansea to enter play-offs are around 3.75 The Swans from Wales are a sensation this season and Roberto Martinez is definitely the most appreciated young coach even outside Championship. Great technique, the ball is always on the ground defense is confident and attack is fast and aggressive. They have gone 16 fantastic games without losing, nine out of which they drew. In all of these draws they were much closer to victory and few days ago they even outplayed Fulham in FA Cup, but they lacked a little luck (1:1). These draws on their tally will easily turn into victories as the season goes by, and we think that they will easily close the current three-point gap behind the play-offs zone. With a little luck they might even earn promotion to the Premier league as they are a very mature team…
4. Odds for Kevin Phillips (Birmingham) to be league’s top scorer are around 15.00. We have already mentioned that Birmingham have just handled their long and negative stage and in the absence of James McFadden (whose injury will keep him away for at least two more months) veteran Phillips showed his potential by scoring crucial goals that served to save the day for the Blues that played terrible. Now when they team are gaining form, aiming at the very top of the table, experienced scorer will with the rookies Bowyer and Bouazza have more useful passes, so seven goals behind Ebanks-Blake from Wolves doesn’t seem so big a gap now. The Blues will certainly score more in spring, Wolves are in crisis, odds on Phillips are great and let us remind you that this player was not only the top scorer last season but he was also the best player. He was once Premier League top scorer and the golden boot of Europe too. So we shouldn’t rule him out just like that…
5. Odds on Coventry to enter play-offs are around 34.00. We are aware that many of you might criticize us for this, but Sky-blue are another team that is waking up and that could gather pace in spring. They have just given a hard time to Blackburn Rovers in FA Cup away leg (2:2) and earned a returning leg at their Ricoh Arena and thrashed leading Wolves 2:1 in the league. Lead by another young expert with Premiership experience, Chris Coleman, they started the season pretty well, and then slowed down. Their form at home was particularly poor. It seems that they have finally found their form and tempting odds and ‘only’ 11 points behind play-offs zone give us the right to suggest them as a surprise till the end of the season. They stabilized their financial situation too, after Ray Ranson took them over last year. Time is on their side…
