The excellent Aussie keeper has been in Reading for two years, but hasn’t got a chance to prove his worth until recently. In blue-white Royals’ first top-flight season (2007/06) he had only a couple of performances, only when first keeper Marcus Hahneman would pick up an injury. He was watching his teammates from the bench in their best and rest days, was loaned a couple of time here and there, but this winter, the spotlight is finally on him.
After a serious injury to Hahneman in December, just after his return from two-month loan from Southend, he got the chance to stand on the goal-line. Over the next few weeks, he cemented his place and his fabulous saves have often earned him a lot of praise form manager Steve Coppell. The crown of that period was the goal he scored in the 96th minute against Cardiff, when his team was goal down. Every single one Reading player stormed down to the rivals’ box and in the manner of a classic striker Federici went flying into the air heading the Noel Hunt’s corner kick in and the beautiful goal sealed an important point for the Royals.
In the last couple of weeks, recovered Hahneman is lurking his chance to stand back on the goal line, but there is no way he will be able to chase away in-form Australian. Reading are in sort of a downtrend right now, they are hard on scoring, but also in conceding, thanks to Adam. He conceded 10 goals in 13 games he played which would be a much better result had his colleagues in the back line performed a little better: Michael Dubbery and Alex Pierce.
Every man has his own five minutes of glory and Federici will use his the best way he can…
