Years or injuries, seldom a heart failure or illness can move football player away from professional football. So the news about Ipswich Town reserve keeper, Shane Supple, healthy as a horse and has just signed the contract with the team from Portman Road, retiring at the age of 22 sounded strange.
This is a very talented net guardian, who has made 38 caps for the club and was a regular starter in U21 Irish national squad. At the time when Roy Keane and national team boss Giovanni Trapatoni were supposed to rely on him, Supple stated to have found himself without motivation. Deep in his heart he doesn’t feel the play as he used to and he wishes to focus on other professional challenges.
Even though as a young boy he dreamt of playing in the Premier League, Supple realised that there is more to life and that professional football is not exactly the same as seen through a little boy’s eyes. Most of the people think that the boy is insane but I beg to disagree and fully support his decision to do catering (as unofficial sources mentioned in English press).
To cut the long story short, there are two reasons why I support Supple:
- I wouldn’t play for the team lead by Roy Keane, either (even if it were Manchester United).
- Catering business seems much more lucrative than Ipswich’s potential at the moment.
