Key players from last season, Juninho and Benzema, have left Lyon and that created a big gap to fill, but it seems that Les Gones will manage to build a decent team after all. The statement on Lyon official website reads that the club have agreed a deal with Porto to sign striker Lisandro Lopez for €24 million, and the transfer will be finalized once the player agree personal terms with the club.
President Jean-Michel Aulas was heavily criticized by the fans for the lack of major signings after Juninho and Benzema had left the club, and he decided to act accordingly. The club have secured the services of Argentine striker Lisandro Lopez, who is seen as the perfect replacement for Benzema as he can play in every position in attack. The deal is worth €24 million although it could rise to €28 million based on player’s performances. The transfer will be completed once Lopez agrees personal terms and upon passing the medical.
Lisandro Lopez has been in tremendous form playing for Porto during the last few years, where he scored 63 goals in 143 appearances and he will definitely be a great asset for Benzema-less Lyon.
Lyon have thus compensated for the departure of Benzema and considering that they are unlikely to sign a player capable of replacing Juninho, it seems that Brazilian Ederson will be given the chance to step up the plate, which means that he will be played more centrally rather than on the wing like last season.
