Lyon fans were disappointed with the departures of team’s key players, Juninho and Benzema after the end of last season but it seems that Jean-Michel Aulas will manage to create a team capable of challenging for honours. After the capture of Argentinean striker Lisandro Lopez, Les Gones are set to snatch the hottest prospect in French football, Lille’s Michel Bastos.
Lille was reluctant to sell the excellent attacking midfielder, who impressed in Ligue 1 last season, but president Michel Seydoux said Lyon’s offer had been too good to refuse and he didn’t want to deny the player a chance to make a step to the big stage. The fee is thought to be around €18 million and the Brazilian will sign a four-year contract on Thursday.
Bastos has been largely impressive last term and he was named in the Team of the Season. The Brazilian admitted that joining Lyon was a dream come true.
“In my country, when you talk about Ligue 1, you start by talking about Lyon. To be able to join a club that have been French champions seven times is huge. It’s the realization of a childhood dream.”
Bastos is Lyon’s second big name signing after Lisandro Lopez and even though club icons Juninho and Benzema will be difficult to replace, Les Gones seem to be on the right track.
