After narrowly missing out on the Ligue 1 title last season, Marseille and the new boss Didier Deschamps are determined to make things right next season. The latest reports are suggesting that they are on the verge of signing Porto playmaker Lucho Gonzalez, having agreed a €17 million fee for the Argentine player, who is thus set to become the most expensive signing in club’s history.
Marseille director Antoine Veyrat visited Porto on Saturday and he managed to strike a deal for Argentine playmaker worth €17 million. The fee could rise by one million per season and this is set to become the record transfer for Olympique. Marseille will meet Lucho’s agent Marcelo Simonian on Monday and they are ready to offer a four-year contract worth €2 million per season, what would be more than the player has been earning at Porto. Even though Gonzalez has been waiting for the offer from Real or some of the Serie A clubs, it seems that he will end up in France after all.
Lucho Gonzalez is regular in Argentina national team and he has been the most influential player at Porto for quite a while. He’s got a lot of experience and is a true playmaker, thus Marseille will definitely benefit from signing him.
Olympique already have a very good team but with Lucho and Bordeaux’s Diawara, who has expressed desire to join Marseille, they will definitely be much stronger than last season and Ligue 1 title looks like a realistic possibility at the moment.
