It is not at least unusual in France that, whenever a talented kid appears, he is being called the “New Zidane”. Zizou was one and only, but League 1 sprung a number of talented players in the past scanned by major European outfits. This season, one of the boys who has hit the spotlights and got his name on the major clubs’ shortlists is Sofiane Feghouli. Well informed links report that last in a row of the impressed ones was Sir Alex Ferguson. For starters, Feghouli is younger than most of the players being linked with European giants, despite only 19, he still possess a great deal of experience playing both in the first and the second French league. Interestingly enough, he didn’t get thumbs up on trial with PSG, but he exploded for French outfit, Grenoble, who were promoted to League 1 last year.
He is being compared to Zidane most of all because he comes from Algeria. Last season, when the club from famous winter resort was stamping a path towards the elite, the boy was team’s top assistant and seems to have a great way of handling the high expectations.
Currently, there is an ongoing bidding about what country this boy will play for, but since he has already played for French youth selections and since Raymond Domenech has already put him on the wider list of the players he is counting on for the future, it is not easy to make conclusions. There are some rumors that he will be brought in the national squad at one of the following frrendlies not only so he could show his talent, but so he would be prevented from playing for Algeria in the future. Of course, his parents’ homeland is not wasting time in vain also, national team’s manager has already invited him for a friendly against Mali, but Feghouli rejected it saying he needs time to reconsider. In the meantime, games against Bosnian and Danish youth selections proved that time is on his side and that there is a bright future in front of this lad.
Ferghouli is a midfielder, he can play as forward too, and apart from being a great assistant this boy possesses a powerful strike. Young player is currently at the turning point of his career, Grenoble will not hesitate to cash in next summer, while Ferghouli could sign for some big club and go to a smaller surrounding to develop his talent since no one wants to see him wasting his skills like a number of young talented French players that were brought in the fire too early.
Gourcuff is the perfect example…
