Adel Taarabt had been considered one of the hot prospects of European football when arriving to Tottenham two years ago, but he saw his chances severely limited at White Hart Lane outfit. Nevertheless, the loan move to QPR did him a lot of good and he showed what a great player he could become after playing just three games for the Rangers. It is now evident that Taarabt only needed regular football in order to develop as a player and I am sure that he will return to Tottenham much stronger.
Taarabt arrived to London after playing just one professional match for Lens and he soon made his debut for Tottenham, coming on as a substitute in the thrilling match against West Ham. He made instant impact as his surging run was ended by the foul on the edge of the penalty area. Dimitar Berbatov scored from the resulting free-kick, before Paul Stalteri added the winner in injury time. Taarabt continued making occasional appearances but he was never given enough playing time to show all he’s got. The Moroccan-born attacking midfielder is a very skillful player, but he tends to be selfish sometimes and that is probably one of the reasons for the limited appearances. He was deemed surplus to the requirements during Juande Ramos’ reign, when he was dropped to the reserve squad, but Harry Redknapp quickly restored him to the first team set-up, stating that the boy was a genius. After making a couple of substitute appearances for Tottenham this season, Taarabt joined QPR on loan in an attempt to gain some match practice and much needed continuity.
In the meantime, the 19-year-old player made his debut for the Moroccan national team even though he had played for the France youth teams. Taarabt made immediate impact at QPR, where he largely impressed the fans after just three games, in two of which he was named man of the match. He just needed some regular playing time and some freedom to show all his potential and I am sure that all Tottenham fans are glad to finally see Taarabt doing what he was brought for. His cameo performances against Swansea and Bristol City showed just what a great player Tottenham had at their disposal. Another ten odd games for QPR will be very useful for Adel as he will gain a lot of confidence and will definitely grow in stature. This will help him a great deal when he returns to Tottenham and I am positive that Harry Redknapp will give him enough playing time next season. Taarabt proved that he was one of the hottest prospects in the Premiership and I am eager to see him again in Tottenham jersey.
