Having arrived to Hull City in January, record transfer Jimmy Bullard was hoping for a fresh start with the Tigers. Alas, the 30-year-old is really an unlucky chap since he got injured once again… Hull City boss, Phil Brown is determined to help his player get over the dark times as quickly and as easily as he possibly can.
English midfielder and Brown’s £5 million record buy has a history of knee problems… on 9th, September, 2006, Bullard, then at Fulham, injured his knee which was thought to keep him sidelined for six to eight weeks, but few days later examinations proved his injury to be more serious and to keep him off the field for about 16 months. Without him on the pitch, Cottagers slipped down in the red zone and were in great danger of being relegated, but Jimmy’s return sparked Fulham into a run which saw them move out of the bottom three ensuring their Premier League survival. Fulham boss, Roy Hodgson, didn’t seem to appreciate Bullard’s contribution to the club and didn’t manage to come to the terms of a new contract with excellent midfielder, so he left…
Roy Hodgson literally sent him away from Fulham and Jimmy surely felt a bit downhearted after it all…setting his mind on making it all right, Jimmy turned a new page in his career, but it didn’t last long…unlucky chap picked up an injury on his debut with his new club!
I just can’t imagine what it must have been like for him, getting the same knee injured again after only half an hour spent on the field for the new club. He must have been devastated…after the visit to US doctor, injury proved far worse than first appeared and Jimmy will be sidelined for at least six months. In this cruel football world, Hull manager Phil Brown had two choices, but he chose to be a big man and, unlike Roy Hodgson, he chose to stand behind his midfielder giving him the support he needs.
“When Jimmy wakes up after the surgery, he will be a Hull City player. Signing Bullard wasn’t a gamble for me, it wasn’t a risk. For me, it was an investment in an international player. There are no regrets whatsoever about signing Jimmy Bullard” – Hull boss insisted.
These are the words of a truly great man who knows to appreciate good and dedicated players…his words will certainly have done wonders for Jimmy in his struggle to come back on the field. I am sure that he will be determined to return stronger on the field and to pay back Phil both for the money and support he had invested in Bullard.
Jimmy has pulled it off once, he can certainly do it again…
