After winning the historic treble last season, Barcelona will try to repeat the feat this term and they have already started looking for ways to further reinforce the team. One player who definitely won’t be at Camp Nou is Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has been made available by Barca, with asking price thought to be in the region of €5 million. The Icelandic striker will have no problems finding a club since the host of Premiership clubs is interested in his services.
Ever since Guardiola took over the reigns at Barca, Gudjohnsen was thought to be close to the exit door as the coach didn’t really see him as a part of mighty Barcelona. However, as the season unfolded, the striker was given the chance, which he really took advantage of by playing a couple of very good games. He was mostly being used as a back-up player and even though he was part of the most successful team in club’s history, Gudjohnsen will be sold the following summer.
The Catalan club wants €5 million for the player, which is seven million euros less than the price they paid Chelsea in 2006. A number of English clubs including Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham and West Ham are interested in signing the experienced striker, while Turkish side Besiktas has also joined the race.
Eidur Gudjohnses was brought from Chelsea in 2006 as a replacement for veteran striker Henrik Larsson and he has amassed more than 100 appearances for the Catalans, although he has started most of the games from the substitutes’ bench.
