Chelsea fans probably are not even aware of what kind of player they got. Few months ago we talked about the well-kept secrets of Russian championship and noticed that Zhirkov might turn out to be better than Arshavin but he simply didn’t have enough media attention.
This CSKA player has for years, been best player in the excellent Russian championship. He has been in the Army men since 2004 and he contributed the most to the fact that CSKA are the most successful Russian club in 21st century.
He got the nickname ‘Russian Ronaldinho’, most of all because of the dribbling. He is not a typical Eastern-European player, he does not fall into that picture. Aside from his excellent technique, he is also a great tactician that is the direct influence of coach Gazzaev.
What makes him better than Cole?
First of all, he is much more stronger with the ball. There is no left back in the world at the moment that can handle one on one situation better.
Second of all, he is useful in various formations. He covers the left side of the midfield in 3-5-2 formation in Russia, but he can cover the position of left back in 4-4-2.
Third of all, his cross is fantastic; Wagner Lowe has long been the top scorer in the Russian Premier League, mostly thanks to Zhirkov. A striker like Drogba or Anelka, that is to say any striker that delivers good headers could profit a lot from the Russian’s assistance.
