This has been utterly disappointing season for Arsenal as they have missed out on all the major trophies, again. Arsene Wenger did have some problems with injured players but that cannot be an excuse for the poor results. The aforementioned players have returned for the decisive battles of the season, but they couldn’t help the Gunners avoid a couple of disappointing defeats to their big rivals. The fans have had it enough with Arsene Wenger and they feel that the Frenchman is to blame for the fact that Arsenal have been unable to match the big clubs in England in the last few years. Wenger is also tracked by Real Madrid at the moment, and the Spanish team would love to lure him into the club. It seems that the time has come for Wenger to leave Arsenal and that could be a very good solution for both parties.
Nobody can deny Wenger that he has done a tremendous job during his reign at the North London club, but he’s made a lot of mistakes over the last few years and his stubbornness is one of the reasons why the team have been struggling in recent years. The French manager did manage to nurture a lot of talented youngsters, who went on to become great players but it seems that he has insisted too much on talent at the expense of experience. A lot of excellent players and at the same time experienced ones have left the club since Arsenal last won the Premier League, namely Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Vieira and Ljungberg, but Wenger decided to replace them with very young players and that is definitely one of the reasons for the downtrend in club’s fortunes. I don’t want to say that players like Fabregas, Walcott, Clichy or Sagna don’t deserve to play at such a high level but they would definitely learn a lot more alongside more experienced players.
We could all see how much Arsenal’s game has improved since the arrival of Andrei Arshavin, who is the first world-class player to have arrived at Arsenal after quite a while. If Wenger had brought just a couple of more players like Arshavin over the years, the Gunners would have been celebrating a couple of titles this season but there is no point in crying over spilt milk now. Another big problem this season has been the absence of true defensive midfielder, which is something the attack-minded team like Arsenal definitely need to have. Since the departure of Gilberto Silva, there has been no player capable of efficiently covering for the back line and no wonder that Gunners have been conceding plenty of goals this season. Even the players themselves seem to have lost confidence in this team and this seems to be the perfect time for Wenger to leave the club. I am positive that he is tired of hearing that this team need improvement and leaving the post would definitely be the right thing to do. Florentino Perez, who is set to win the next month’s presidential election at Santiago Bernabeu outfit, is keen to have Wenger take over the reigns at Real Madrid and that seems to be a done deal as the Frenchman refused to deny the allegations.
