Arsene Wenger continues to bringing young, talented players to Arsenal and the reports are suggesting that he has won the race to sign Bordeaux’s hot prospect Henri Saivet. The 18-year-old Saivet is thought to be the next star of French football even though he only played two senior games for Les Girondins. The Senegalese-born forward has been spotted while playing for France Under-17 side but he failed to show all his potential this season as he’s been sidelined with a foot injury.
Saivet signed his professional contract with Bordeaux at the age of 16, thus becoming the youngest professional player in the club’s history. He has been the part of France Under-17 side since 2006 and has already drawn comparisons with Thierry Henry. Saivet is a very quick forward, who can play on either side of the pitch and is very confident on the ball. He is also very strong, which is probably one of the reasons why the Premier League clubs are locked in the battle for his signature. Chelsea and Liverpool are among the teams interested in signing him, but it seems that Saivet choose Arsenal (most likely because of Arsene Wenger) and the deal could be completed this summer, should Arsenal and Bordeaux agree on the transfer fee. The 18-year-old striker is the part of Laurent Blanc’s team this season but a difficult injury prevented him from showing his potential for Les Girondins. Saivet is slowly recovering from injury and he will probably play few more games before the end to the season, thus the interested teams will have another chance to check on his progress. Still, my opinion is that he would be better off staying at Bordeaux at least for another year as he didn’t really have enough time to make an impact in professional football.
