Inter president Massimo Moratti have confirmed for Gazzetta dello Sport his interest in Chelsea pair Deco and Carvalho, while at the same time he stated that Ibrahimovic and Maicon could stay at Inter despite the interest from big European clubs.
Moratti commented on Ibrahimovic’s possible transfer to Barcelona, which would see Samuel Eto’o join Inter.
“I have read about swap deals for Eto’o, but Laporta didn’t let on anything,” Moratti confessed to Gazzetta dello Sport.
“But he did ask whether ‘Ibra’ truly has a bad temper, as he was told. And if he argues with his team-mates and the fans.
“In turn, he said that Eto’o is very strong on the pitch, but he is quite a strange character. Barca don’t need to sell him at all costs and that’s exactly my stance on Ibra. Besides, there are no offers at present and we hope he will stay put.”
Moratti added that the club was interested in signing Deco and Carvalho from Chelsea, while he ruled out the possibility that Maicon would leave the club.
“Mourinho has asked us for Deco and Carvalho and we are working towards making him happy.
“We still haven’t reached an agreement with Chelsea but I think we will do in a short time.
“We are interested in Carvalho primarily for the Champions League,” said Moratti.
“Deco will have two tasks: to do well immediately and to help Coutinho mature as a player.
“Coutinho will arrive next season [from Vasco de Gama] and plays in the same role as Deco.”
Inter president will have his work cut out for him in the next few months but if he manages to do all he imagined, maybe Inter will finally emerge as seious Champions League contenders.
