Spurs’ disappointing season continues and no wonder that everybody is looking for replacements for Juande Ramos. The Spaniard is going through the same crisis period as Martin Jol but it is even worse this season. Ramos is very close to being sacked and the latest name on the list of possible replacements is current coach of Croatia, Slaven Bili
ć.
Bilić was a good player, a regular in the national team and he even played in the Premier League for West Ham. A lot of people were surprised with his appointment as the national team coach, so soon after his playing career. However, he has proved his credentials and he is regarded as one of the most promising coaches in the World. He did a great job with Croatia, transforming them from the average team to the real force in European football and the people in England still remember the defeat at Wembley, which left England without the place on the Euro 2008. Bilić managed to create a real togetherness in the national team and great team spirit and good results were not surprising. His team played possibly the best football at the Euro and they were unlucky to lose in the quarterfinals. But is he good enough for Spurs?
Bilić would be under constant pressure at Tottenham and he doesn’t have experience in club football. He would have to deal with star players, earning big money, who wouldn’t be too happy to be left from the team. It would be a lot more difficult to build team spirit, not to mention that he would not be able to bring the players he wants and would have to manage with what he had. Two of his national team players are currently at Tottenham, Modrić and Ćorluka and they would help him, but these two players have only just arrived and they haven’t yet settled. Even though Bilić is a good coach, I don’t think he is ready to coach team like Tottenham and maybe he was aware of this when he stated that he wasn’t interested in this position.
