If anyone had doubts about Frazier Campbell and his potential, after his performance against Liverpool in Carling Cup there is no doubt that the kid is the one to watch. Campbell was excellent playing for United U18 and Reserves, and while another excellent and already proven kid, Rossi, was under the spotlights, Campbell took any chance he had to score. But, one could say it is still Reserves, it is not serious football.
Last season he spent at Hull, helping them to achieve the biggest success in the history and to earn promotion to the Premier league for the first time. Windass scored the crucial goal, but Campbell scored 15 before that, goals that earn them a trip to Wembley and even setup that crucial one. It was more then obvious during the summer that Brown, probably the best coach of young generation in England, rate the lad pretty high. He was ready to splash the money just to sign the kid, but Fergie had different plans. It looks to me that he made a mistake, probably cause he did not believe that Hull will be able to play at Premier league level. In the opening games of the season, Fergie gave a chance to the lad and he showed potential but did not have enough luck to score and to prove that Fergie can count on him. To remind you, Rooney had problems with mysterious African virus, Tevez had personal problems and missed the opening game against Newcastle, Saha was injured (no, really
) and he was basicaly the only option. In the Community Shield he got some minutes, created a couple of chances to shoot and was close to score in the last minutes. In the opening game at Old Trafford he started and did not have any luck when his 5 yard header ended at Given head. After that, Tevez was back, Rooney ready and Fergie definitely decided to splash the cash for Berbatov. Campbell ended with Spurs on a loan.
This is crucial season for the kid. He want get any chance with Spurs, unless he deserves it, especially cause he is not Spurs player. Still, against Liverpool, he finally got the chance to play from the start, and he proved his class. Scoring twice against the biggest United rivals and assisting for the opener was enough to buy the fans. They will track his performances and Redknapp will have to think about him as a partner to Bent or Pavluchenko. Still the big question is if there is any space for the lad in the Fergies plans. Just to remind you, United already has 3 world class strikers in Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov. They also have Manucho (he will probably end on the loan at WBA) in the reserves, Ronaldo as possible option upfront, and two great kids close to first team in Wellback and Macheda. We will see what will happen, but without doubt, I would like to see Campbell getting his chance with United.

He has the great potential. I think there is no reason for Sir Alex to drop him from the plan.
