Chelsea captain John Terry was seriously considering a switch to Manchester City after he was offered £200,000 a week. Citizens were reportedly ready to offer even more money to lure the great defender to Eastlands, but Terry seems to have made up his mind after having conversation with Roman Abramovich and he looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge, whereas his loyalty is likely to be rewarded with a new contract.
Having already significantly reinforced attack, Mark Hughes set his sights on bringing a world-class defender and John Terry was the obvious choice. Chelsea captain kept the suspense by not rejecting the offer immediately and it was thought he was contemplating a transfer. In order to stay with the Blues, Terry wanted reassurances that the club would reinforce the team and he finally decided to stay after Roman Abramovich convinced him his wish would be fulfilled.
Chelsea officials were obviously delighted to keep hold of their most influential player and they will now offer him a new deal worth £150,000 per week. This is considerably less than what he would have been earning at City but you simply cannot put a price tag on some things.
Chelsea have gained a lot by keeping hold of their captain but next up is reinforcing the squad, which is an absolute must if they are to fight for honours next season.
