All the rumors regarding the illustrious, Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood’s future keep piling up. The first guess was his former club, Nottingham Forest which he left in 2003 for a move to West Ham United.
In their relegation struggle, this could’ve been a great deal for Forest since Martin O’Neill said he was willing to loan his player who didn’t start a single game in the Premier League this season. When the entire deal looked as good as closed, the Wolves showed up and, as the better ranked and potential next season Premiership members, caught Marlon’s attraction. His agent even claimed Forest hadn’t contacted him at all and that even Martin O’Neill wasn’t prepared to let his player on loan.
Harewood scored a single goal for Aston Villa this season in UEFA Cup against Litex. After the arrival of Emile Heskey to Villa Park, Marlon even lost his, already limited, berth. In the first part of the season he was mostly used as the sub coming on in the final stages of the games (14 appearances) and since January even that stopped happening. Marlon’s decision was completely understandable, since he had two options to choose from. Wolves are on the right path towards the direct promotion to Premier League, while Nottingham Forest are in a dogfight for survival and it is totally clear why he had changed his mind. He could sign a long-term deal with Wolves this summer and start playing in the top league again starting August.
The established scorer had been proving his worth over and over, and his quality would be definitely much better utilized outside the Villa Park…
