Nemanja Vidic rewarded for loyalty

Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic is definitely one of the best centre-backs in the world at the moment and he was linked with a number of big European clubs lately. Nevertheless, he stayed loyal to the Old Trafford outfit, having rejected offers from Barcelona, Milan and Real and was rewarded for his loyalty by Sir Alex with a new contract. We all knew what a great player he was but he now showed that he was a person to match.

Nemanja Vidic has had a tremendous couple of seasons at United and he was even heavily tipped to be named Premiership Player of the Year. The Serb played extremely well throughout the last season and all major European clubs showed interest in his services. Barcelona, Real and Milan all contacted him regarding a possible move, but Vidic reacted like a true professional and immediately reported offers to Sir Alex Ferguson. The player rejected the hefty offers even though his wife, who is not satisfied with life in Manchester, was eager to pack their bags and he thus showed how a true professional should behave. Let me remind you that at the time Vidic was earning just £20,000 a week, and that he would have been given much much more in any of the aforementioned clubs. Sir Alex reacted immediately and offered him a new contract and a pay rise to £70,000 a week.

Even with a pay rise, Vidic is now earning less than a player like Dimitar Berbatov, whose contribution to the team is nowhere near to that of Vidic, but the Serb has revealed he had no problems with the fact that players like Ferdinand and Rooney earn twice as much as him. Ferguson can definitely be happy to have such a great player and a great person in his team, and the fans can rest assured that Vidic will see out his contract with United. This is a big encouragement for the Red Devils, since they would have had big problems if the Serb had followed the footsteps of Ronaldo and Tevez, who had earlier left the club.
