Former Atletico Madrid star and Liverpool striker, Fernando Torres believes that English Premier League is superior competition to Spanish Primera. He said that it is more difficult to win points against smaller teams in England. Great pitches, fantastic crowd and rivals that want to play attractive football are things which make English Premier League the most competitive football league in the world. And it’s true.
But, the fact that English teams scored only three goals in the last round of the Champions League and that big four didn’t score a single goal the week before in domestic championship, tells me about possible changes in EPL. Obviously, some outside influences have changed the football style I always preferred. Maybe the rhythm is the same, but result is in the first place. Consequently, coaches that prefer football with much more tactical tasks are more successful and all beauty of specific Island football is in doubt. Now, some matches are real chess games.
On the other hand, matches in Primera could be more exciting for neutral football fans. Torres was right when he talked about pitches, fans in the stadiums and the motivation of some smaller team to take a scalp from the big favourite, but if you like to watch football match on TV with popcorns and beer, you maybe prefer Spanish Primera. The reason is a duty of managers to make their supporters satisfied with performance, not only with result. If you try to find out these conclusions through numbers here is the fact: average number of goals till now this season in EPL is 2.64, while in Spain it is 2.81, according to Soccerstats.com.
Maybe some new “catenaccio” could be born and find its place in the next period, in EPL.
