Wolfsburg won the historical Bundesliga title last season, mostly thanks to fantastic striker partnership between Edin Dzeko and Grafite. The club somehow managed to hold on to the striking duo, whereas they even managed to reinforce the strongest attack in Germany. The Wolves signed Obafemi Martins from Newcastle for a reported fee of £9 million, with the Nigerian signing a four-year contract.
Wolfsburg had a tough job on their hands this summer as numerous big clubs wanted to buy Edin Dzeko, but the club proved their ambition by persuading the striker to stay at least for another season. Knowing that the Dzeko and Grafite will need a cover in what will be a very difficult season, the club officials managed to sign Obafemi Martins from Newcastle and they now have a formidable front line. Coach Armin Veh can now even use a three-man attack, while he will also have great players up front even when the club sell Dzeko.
Martins failed to fulfill his potential at Newcastle, mostly because of numerous injuries but a surprise move to Bundesliga champions will be a good chance to kick-start his career. The Nigerian scored 35 goals in 104 appearances for the Magpies and he will be looking to fare much better at Wolfsburg.
