The number of English Premier League clubs are said to be interested in signing Serbian Under 21 midfielder Nemanja Matic, who has already spent some time in England while on trial at Middlesbrough. The creative midfielder impressed the visiting scouts at the Under 21 Euro in Sweden in Serbia’s first match with Italy and it seems that he has done enough to earn him a lucrative deal this summer even though he will miss the remaining games at the competition through injury.
The 20-year-old Serb moved quickly from his native country and he joined Slovakian side MFK Kosice. During the two years at the club he attracted a lot of attention with impressive performances and was on the verge of joining Middlesbrough in December last year but Gareth Southgate missed the chance to sign him and how he must be regretting that decision now.
Matic is extremely gifted midfielder and he can play on any position in the centre of the park. He is very creative player and has excellent technical attributes for such a tall player. The player has already played 2 games for the senior national team, but he really impressed while playing for the Under 21 side against Italy in Serbia’s opening game at U21 Euro. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury in that match and will miss the rest of the tournament, but that is unlikely to stop him from joining a big European club this summer.
MFK Kosice’s club official Allen Bula has confirmed that the club have received offers for Matic from CSKA Moscow, Genoa and Udinese, while no less than five English clubs have contacted the club regarding the young midfielder. Aston Villa, Fulham, Tottenham and Birmingham are thought to be among the clubs interested, while some reports are suggesting that Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to join the race.
