After six unsuccessful attempts, Mark Hughes finally managed to bring Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City, the player with whom he had a great working relationship when the pair was at Blackburn. Santa Cruz is the second signing for the Citizens for the new season, after Gareth Barry, whereas the reports from England suggest that Carlos Tevez could be next.
It seems that the Eastlands club will build a very good team for next season. After acknowledging that they are unlikely to bring any big stars into their fold, they turned to more feasible targets like Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz. The Paraguayan striker is the second signing for the Citizens but definitely not the last one. It is thought that the club paid around £18 million for the player and it was manager Mark Hughes who insisted on signing the towering striker. Hughes worked with Santa Cruz at Blackburn and he obviously knows what he can do. The Welsh boss have been trying to lure the Paraguayan for quite a while and he finally managed to sign him, which was not an easy job considering that clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal have also been interested in the player.
Having already signed two very good players, City officials are turning to new targets. British press reports that Carlos Tevez is on the brink of joining the club, while Samuel Eto’o is another option. It seems that the Argentine forward is a more realistic option since Chelsea officials have stated that they were not interested in signing him. Judging by the fact that Tevez has ended negotiations with Manchester United and stated that he would not be joining Liveropool either, it seems that his transfer to Manchester City is imminent.
