Believe it or not, but Paul Scholes have received an offer from Stoke to end his career with the Potters and then take over as team manager. Even though this sounds a bit sensational Scholes’ transfer to Stoke is far from impossible. Manchester United legend, who is one of three Ferguson’s dinosaurs, could end his playing career at Stoke if he accepts Tony Pulis’s offer to become player-coach at the club. This is highly unlikely to happen as the outstanding midfielder has just finished his 15th professional season in the only club he’s ever played for.
Paul Scholes is a true soldier of Manchester United. Even though he is not from the city itself but from Oldham, which is very close to Manchester, Paul Scholes have grown to become real symbol of the club and according to Ferguson, he is the only player the Scott has coached in the past 20 years that no other manager sent an offer for, since it was thought that Scholes would never leave Red Devils.
Tony Pulis, however, acted immediately upon hearing Scholes say that he was interested to stay in football after the end of his playing career, and that he intended to hang up the boots at the end of next season.
“I think there comes a time when you have to accept you won’t play every week, especially with the quality of midfielders we have.
“We will have to see how I am next season, but if I feel I can go again, I will. I would have thought next season will be my last one, though. After that, I would not rule out management.
“Let’s see how the coaching goes first, but I would like to be a manager one day. I think I could put up with the demands it brings.”
It is not very likely that Scholes will accept Stoke’s offer, and it is almost certain that he will start his coaching career at Manchester United. Ferguson has already stated that he wanted to keep Scholes, Giggs and Neville in the club forever, doing the work they were best suited for. All three players have completed coaching badges and they are expected to take control of the Youth Academy in year’s time. Last season Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ended his career and took control over reserve team, the same team which promoted Macheda, Gibson and Welbeck to the first team set-up this season. Solskjaer is expected to become Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager, the position currently occupied by Mike Phelan, as early as next season.
