Luis Felipe Scolari had a very good start to his career at Chelsea and Blues were very convincing at the start to the season. However, the latest reports are suggesting that the players are not impressed with the Brazilian and that they preferred Mourinho and Grant to Scolari. It seems that Big Phil is on the verge of leaving the club but he will not need to look far as he could be in line to replace under-fire coach Carlos Dunga at the helm of Brasil national team.
The number of Chelsea players has questioned some decisions of Scolari over the recent few weeks and it seems that the Brazilian doesn’t have the support of players any more. John Terry and Frank Lampard questioned Scolari’s decision to bring Malouda and inexperienced Stoch for Deco and Mikel in the game against Arsenal, while the players also criticized him for substituting Ballack in the match against West Ham, rather than underperforming Deco. It seems that Scolari has lost the support of the dressing room and that is a big problem. He is known as a coach that has an excellent rapport with his players but it looks as though he has gone too far. It is hardly a good thing when players start questioning your judgment and Big Phil is in a difficult situation at the moment. Despite all this, it wouldn’t be wise for Chelsea to change a coach in the middle of the season but Roman Abramovich is not a man of football and he would have no problems sacking Scolari. But, I feel he should think twice before doing this.
For the first time after a couple of years, Chelsea is finally playing attractive football and we all know who has to take credit for this. More importantly, this change of playing style didn’t affect defence, which is as solid as ever and we have to take into account numerous injury problems this season before judging Scolari. He was often without half of the starters and sometimes even more, and still the results are very respectable. Still, even if he gets sacked, I don’t think that Big Phil would be too disappointed as he is seen as Dunga’s successor in Brazil national team. Carlos Dunga is under a lot of pressure and Scolari has the support of the whole nation to become next Brazil coach. We will have to wait and see what happens at Chelsea but my opinion is that sacking Scolari would be a big mistake.
