With window almost open all major teams are keen on spending as much as it takes to build up their squads in the winter. It has already started, some of the teams have already captured some lucrative players, but there is surely plenty more to see in January. This is promising to be one of the interesting transfer round.
In the times of modern football, it is not so much about the game you play, but it is all about the money you spend. All of the European giants seem to be fighting over who will spend more, who will bring the bigger name without paying attention on whether that player might do good to their club. The best example for that is Italian outfit Milan. It seems that all that Berlusconi wants is to bring all of the best he could find on the market whether he needed them on board or not. First Shevchenko then Ronaldinho and now Beckham…who is next? The trio cost a hell of money, but we don’t see any real progress and results. But when it comes to boss Berlusconi, money is the least problem.
Similar thing is going on with the Spanish greatest, Real Madrid. Mijatovic and Calderon have always been big spenders, but at least, unlike Milan, they had found the way to repay the spent. Nowadays, it seems that Real bosses have gone dry on ideas, they have given up on Ronaldo, but I’m sure that, in the wake of recent development, they will not hesitate on stepping in the race for unsettled Manchester United striker, Carlos Tevez. It seems that Real have some problems with Manchester United and sir Fergie. Maybe they are jealous of Devils’ success and all they ever do is measuring up against the World Champions. Whenever United target a player, Real immediately step in the chase to steal him away from them. Had they been looking in their own backyard maybe Barcelona wouldn’t have been so convincing this season. Money can’t buy you everything…
English outfits have their minds filled with other stuff and it seems that this January campaign would not be very noisy…
After signing two Serbian starlets Adem Ljajic and Zoran Tosic, Fergie claimed that there would be no more arrivals to Old Trafford and Manchester United will continue the season with the unchanged squad which will force Real Madrid go on
their own this transfer window.
Arsenal have had a lot of squad problems this season, former skipper Gallas had brought unrest in the dressing room, Febregas got seriously injured and it seems that Wenger will have other things on his mind than spending money.
Rafa seems to have finally found the right formula, his squad is playing great, Torres and his teammates have been excellent so far, so there is no need to change the winning team. Still, with skipper Gerrard arrested, it will have affected the team for sure and we will see how Benitez will cope with the situation.
Ongoing world financial crisis seems to have affected Chelsea boss, Abramovich. He has lost a great deal of money and I am sure Scolari will not be brave enough to ask the edgy Russian for transfer money. Is there a problem in Chelsea? Yes, there is! There is no more money!
Bloody money…

I think the author of this article is obviously misinformed about financial dealings within AC Milan seceral super stars that he mentions including Shevchenko and Ronaldinho have taken pay CUTS to play in Milan. Although I do agree with overall point of the article. There should be a cap set by FIFA otherwise it becomes all about money then youger or upcoming teams have no chance. Very very few younger players would sacrifice financial stability in favour of building up a club and by the time they have enough money in the purse they don’t have enough talent or stamina left to make a huge impact on the team so teams like Chelsea, Arcenal, United, Milans can just feed of the youngsters and then discard them or move them down the squad order after they have used them up. But that’s a worst case scenario… I hope
