Chelsea have just been hit with one of the harshest bans in the history of football and they won’t be able to sign any new players before January 2011. This comes as a result of the breach of regulations following Gael Kakuta’s transfer from Lens as the kid was practically stolen from the French club. The Blues are now desperate to hold onto their players, since they practically have no other solution, while I am pretty sure they will live to regret for not having paid enough attention to their youth academy.
Chelsea are just one of the clubs who have been searching for youngsters all around the globe in an attempt to turn them into next Messis, Drogbas or Ronaldos. We have often seen small clubs complaining after seeing one of their biggest talents get snatched by clubs like Chelsea but nobody was prepared to take any action for these wrongdoings. This is why every football fan should be encouraged by this action taken by FIFA since it could be a sign of better days when the clubs will have the opportunity to hold onto the players they have trained for so many years. Don’t get me wrong, Chelsea are definitely not the only club that have been doing this but if someone needed to feel the consequences it was Chelsea.
I am glad that they are in big problems at the moment and couldn’t care less if this penalty can hurt their bid for trophies. The only way how the Blues could survive this crisis is by not letting any of their players leave the club and they have only themselves to blame. If Roman Abramovich and his predecessors had bothered enough to take a look at club’s youth academy and worked on developing young players, they wouldn’t have been in such a difficult position now. They instead saw snatching talented youngsters from other clubs as much better way to build for the future and that is why nobody should feel sorry for them. Arsene Wenger is doing something similar at Le Arsenal and you wonder why England national team cannot seem to do well at the big tournaments.
FIFA and UEFA have finally decided to take some actions in an attempt to free football of some problems that has been ruining the reputation of the beautiful game and we all should give them support to persevere in their fight. The latest action against Chelsea and home-grown players rule that is set to be implemented gradually in successive stages are definitely a good start and I only hope they will continue to take action against anyone trying to hurt the game of football.
