The Premiership season has only just started but the excitement is everywhere. The teams are still getting used to new players but some of them have already shown enough potential to be tipped for greatness. While the title race is set to be very interesting with Chelsea and Liverpool looking to take advantage of United’s troubles, the top 4 race is already looking to be much closer than ever. Arsenal, Manchester City and finally Tottenham all want top 4 finish, although Aston Villa and Everton shouldn’t be written off.
I will start with Arsenal, who have been widely tipped to struggle this season. I am one of the number of people who expected Gunners to have major problems after selling Toure and Adebayor but their impressive start of the season is starting to prove all the doubters wrong. The new 4-3-3 formation is working really well and once Rosicky, Walcott, Djourou and Nasri recover, Arsene Wenger will have big squad to choose from, although they seem to lack some cover in attack and defence. I am not too convinced Bendtner should be a starting forward but at the moment, Wenger doesn’t have anyone else who can play that central role in the three-man attack. Despite the impressive start, Gunners will struggle to stay in the top 4.
Manchester City are the obvious choice to break into the Big 4 this season as they have the team capable of achieving such a feat, but it is still too early to say if Mark Hughes’ team have the character. The stars are bound to start sulking when they don’t see their name on the team sheet and that is likely to damage the atmosphere in the dressing room. If Hughes manages to keep the big egos under control, then anything is possible. The Citizens definitely have enough strength in depth, especially since they won’t be playing in Europe this season. Maybe that is also a chance to push for one of the Cup trophies.
However, it is Tottenham that have surprised me the most. Spurs have practically the same team as last season but it seems they have finally clicked and Harry Redknapp’s managerial methods have certainly done the trick. Even with so many players out on the sidelines, Tottenham have had a great start and they finally look like serious top 4 contenders. Every area of the team is in full working order and you just have to look at the players on their bench to see what a great team they have. Crouch, Bentley, Hutton, Cudicini, Bassong, O’Hara, Dawson and many more will be their to help when called upon, and Spurs look set to exceed all expectations this season.
Aston Villa and Everton have had a slow start to the season, but with the quality great managers O’Neill and Moyes have at their disposal, the teams are definitely capable of producing a surprise. This looks set to be the most exciting Premiership season ever and I am really looking forward to seeing so many great matches in the nest league in the world.
