Since everyone’s been talking about the best teams, players and managers, I thought it would be nice to give fans a little credit. Thus, I have spent some time thinking about it and came to a conclusion there is one team whose fans really deserve to be mentioned here.
I know that many will not agree with me…but there is one team that will never walk alone, whose fans support their club in the darkest and the brightest of times. Liverpool have had a great year behind them and their Kop has every right to be satisfied so far.
Firstly, English fans, in general, are really something else… it is the only place where you will see so many people all singing songs, all smiling, enjoying their time at the stadium. England is the only place where you will see all generations sitting on the terraces together. Fathers and sons, even grandparents… Still, we know it wasn’t always like that. English fans were once the most notorious fans in the world. They are simply so passionate about their game and it was hard for them to control that passion. Broken bones, fractured skulls and dead people were common things on Saturday afternoons. Modern times and modern measures made them restrict their feelings and they have learned how to leave the anger outside the field and the transformation began… beasts tamed.
When I think of the Scousers, I always remember how they stood up against the American owners feeling their arrival would have a bad influence on their beloved club. They even started the action of money-gathering in order to buy the club off from the wealthy Yankees. Whenever Rafa Benitez was slapped, they were the first ones to defend his ways, protecting both him and the players. They are really the 12th player, actively involved in their club’s life.
Still, they weren’t always so generous and protective…their fierce criticism would hit on players’ minds maybe even more than Rafa’s and whenever the fans were displeased, players were truly concerned, willing to make things right.

Kop’s been waiting for the title like forever and their passionate support is mounting week in week out. I think they genuinely deserve it this season, their boys have been on top of the league since the start, playing great against all the top four teams and, if they keep it up like this, they shouldn’t have to worry a thing. Still, with Steven Gerrard now arrested for night club brawl, dressing room atmosphere will have been dispersed and we will see if the fans will get back on him due to his unexpected violent behavior. We will see what the fans will say…
All I can say at the end is that it really is not easy to be a Liverpool fan! Why? Almost 20 dry years in domestic league, always trailing behind Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, bumpy takeovers, always lacking the edge, that critical final touch…all of that would make every man go mad, end up in the loony house…
Happy New Year Scousers, wish you got the hold on the trophy finally. You deserve it!
