What a perfect time he chose to score his fist home-soil goals this season…it couldn’t have gone better for the Reds! They completely deserved to win outplaying the Blues and leaving them drifting away dreaming of the title…
The game threatening to become a dull goalless draw took an exhilarating spin at the end leaving Blues’ title hopes drown at Anfield and propelling a hero – Fernando Torres. Everything was evident from the beginning, Reds wanted to win more, they had the game in their feet and definitely deserved the triumph. Blues held on pretty well, me must add they were a man down after Frank Lampard’s red card in ’60 and it was a bit of a breaking point, but that cannot be an excuse for a team of their magnitude. Chelsea will of course claim it was a wrongful dismissal and appeal, but it’s no good, they lost, no use weeping…
Fernando’s late brace proved what an important asset Spain star is in Rafa Benitez’s team and that his presence on the pitch is invaluable. Home fans were sent into raptures after his 89th minute near post shot after Fabio Aurelio’s cross when Fernando was behind Chelsea defender Alex, but managed to cut in front of him and leave overworked Cech helpless. Four minutes into the injury time and the Spaniard clinched the win with his second goal, after Benayoun’s pass in the box leaving the Blues completely embarrassed on the pitch. What a glorious way to end a big derby… Seconds before the full-time whistle, Fernando left to a standing ovation of the jubilant supporters and Rafa was there first to congratulate him for his fantastic performance.
Having seen his yesterday show, it is no wonder Rafa is letting Robbie Keane back to Tottenham. Transfer clock is ticking, Rafa didn’t need to change anything, he is not letting go on any of his players and Fernando’s magical partnership with Steven Gerrard will be enough of a kick-start for Liverpool’s future success. This season’s hopefully…
It seems that these goals have also earned Rafa a new deal and Scolari a one way ticket out of the Stamford Bridge. As it is, things are that Chelsea will once again remain without a title and temperamental Portuguese could be on his way out sooner or later. On the other hand, Spaniard is close to signing a €22.8 million worth a new deal with the owners and we are sure that Fernando’s goals have had a lot of to do with the Americans cutting the slack and allowing the persistent Rafa to have his ways at the end. Namely major set-back regarding the renewing the contract was Benitez’s clause to have the complete control over the club’s transfer policy and it seems he has convinced his bosses and proved that, when not nervous and pressured, he and his boys can reach stars…
