Harry Redknapp has been looking for ways to reinforce the squad and he was thought to be keen on several Real players, including Huntelaar and Robben. The latest reports suggest Spurs are set to sign a Real player but his name may come as a surprise to you. Tottenham have agreed to sign striker Alvaro Negredo for £13 million and that is club’s first major signing this summer.
Tottenham have been chasing a number of players this summer and they were very interested in signing Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Nevertheless, Harry Redknapp has turned his attention to Alvaro Negredo, who is a cheaper option than Huntelaar. Spurs will spend £13 million for the striker, who came through the youth ranks at Real.
The 23-year-old striker nicknamed ‘Wild Animal’ exploded during the two-year loan at Almeria, where he scored the total of 32 goals. Real then exercised a buy-back clause and got the excellent striker for just £4.3 million, but once Florentino Perez started creating Galacticos 2, it was clear that there was no place for Negredo. Real opted to sell the player to Tottenham and thus earned almost £10 million in the matter of few months.
Negredo is Spurs’ first big name signing this summer but the fans are hoping he won’t be the last as the team still need a lot of strengthening of they are to challenge for European places.
