Serbia have always been the breading ground for the talented players and no wonder that the scouts from the big European clubs are monitoring the situation closely. One of the biggest Serbian clubs, Partizan definitely have the best youth academy in the Balkans, and their latest product is Ivan Obradovic, who has already become a first team regular in the Serbian national team even though he started playing professional football just two years ago. Tottenham Hotspur seems to be leading the race to sign highly-rated left-back, although they face stiff competition from clubs like Barcelona and CSKA Moscow among others.
Ivan Obradovic came through the youth ranks at Partizan and he entered the first team set-up just two years ago. The talented defender immediately became a first team regular and he has amassed 47 appearances for the club. Convincing performances in the Serbian Superliga saw him make his debut for the national team and he has played all the games in the qualifying campaign for the World Cup in South Africa and even scored a goal against Austria. The 20-year-old is a very technical player and he is a great crosser of the ball. He also plays well under pressure and is very good at going forward. He needs to work on his defending but that is something that can be improved. His convincing performances in the national team have attracted the attention of clubs like Barcelona, Tottenham and CSKA Moscow and he is widely tipped to leave the club at the end of the season. Obradovic was watched by Barcelona scouts in the last Serbian qualifier in Constanta and they were certainly happy with what they had seen as Obradovic produced a convincing performance in Serbia’s 3:2 win over Romania.
Obradovic will definitely leave Partizan at the end of the season and the only question is where he will go. Tottenham could certainly use him as Benoit Assou-Ekotto is not a very good option, whereas Gareth Bale is struggling to fulfill his potential. Maybe it is still too early for him to join a club as big as Barcelona, but I don’t think he will opt for CSKA either. Tottenham remains the most likely destination for the young defender and playing in the Premier League would definitely toughen him up and turn him into the world-class player.
