You can rarely see a player from Italian second league intrigue half of Europe but young Savio Nsereko pretty soon stopped being Brescia’s secret. Rondinelle, as everyone in Italy calls this team from Lombardy, created a fantastic scouting network and launched several brilliant players in the last few years. The best-known is certainly Slovakian Marek Hamsik from Napoli but new young faces are waiting in line. One of them is precisely Savio Nsereko, a boy from Uganda who found his new homeland in Germany.
Why is Zola ready to spend all of Hammers’ money for a boy that is not yet 20?
First of all, it is about “Italian job“? Actually West Ham sports director, Gianluca Nani who used to work for Brescia is behind this story. He also dug out Savi, that Munich 1860 kidnapped as a 16-year old. Nani has a brilliant career, a professional lawyer, who has made some incredible things working in Brescia since the end of 20th century. He promoted Pirlo and Luca Toni, he even brought Roberto Baggio to the club in Lombardy, thus making his name well-known in Italian football. He is considered a youngsters expert, and the club from London wanted to form a football academy in order to start creating players.
Savio is Nani’s discovery, in a way; after years of playing in youth squads and occasional chances in the first league, he was promoted to a regular starter this season and he did great in one of the strongest competitions in the world. He has the position of a striker in the team, extremely fast he will be just the right replacement for Bellamy. As we see it, there is no doubt he will manage in Premiership, as he adapted to very difficult conditions in Serie B where most teams play defensively so there was not much room for his speed.
We have already mentioned that Nsereko is a member of German national squad and he was best U21 player in EURO where Germans beat the Italian U21 national squad in the finals.
In the end we will mention that Brescia president, Dino Corioni turned down Napoli and Roma’s offers though they were really interested… It is believed that the player, himself wanted to go to England because of Gianluca Nani and also some better personal conditions.
We believe that West Ham are not aware how good a player they signed. If Savio Nsereko continues to develop in the same way, he could become one of Europe’s best strikers.
