Carlos Tevez might have fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov but in my opinion Sir Alex Ferguson should look to make the Argentines deal permanent in the summer. He has only started 12 games for United this season in the league and I think United will probably let him leave in the summer, I for one am not so sure this is such a good idea.
It may cost a whopping £30m+ to keep him at Old Trafford but Tevez’s quality and desire can never be questioned. Unlike Berbatov, Tevez will run the defence ragged chasing lost causes and he is exactly the sort of striker you need for the tougher games. Along with a great work ethic Tevez also has bags of skill and I see him as the perfect partner for Berbatov.
Critics have argued that he doesn’t fit into a team with Berbatov, Ronaldo and Rooney but personally I disagree. Rooney or Tevez could play as an attacking midfielder just behind the two strikers and with both players liking to drop deep to pick up the ball they should prove just as effective in a role playing off the strikers as they do as out and out strikers. Some would argue that Tevez and Rooney are very similar players and there is no need to have both of them but I’m not so sure, I see no problem with having too many quality players. Tevez has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season and scored 10 goals, that is a fairly decent return for a striker who doesn’t play as the main target man and I would be confident backing him as first scorer with my football betting when he does play.
If United did let Tevez go they would have to let him go to one of their rivals. He has too much quality to be ignored by clubs competing in the Champions League and if he doesn’t end up at a top English side he will end up in one of the other big European leagues. Tevez will probably sit on the bench again for United’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan but if he is brought on he will play out of his skin, to try and win a contract at United or at a host of clubs who are no doubt monitoring his progress.
I would be gutted too see Tevez leave the Premier League and I hope United free up the funds too keep him. Ever since he arrived on the scene with West Ham and scored the goal that kept them up (against Man Utd) he has been a joy too watch and I can’t understand why he isn’t an instant pick in Sir Alex’s starting XI.
