A boyhood Spurs fan Jamie O’Hara got his chance to shine at the big stage last season when Juande Ramos included him in Tottenham’s first team. He showed plenty of potential in his first season in the Premiership and made instant impact by producing several impressive performances. He was integral part of the Tottenham team that reached the Carling Cup final at Wembley but he could hardly guess what is going to happen. O’Hara bought no less than 22 tickets for his family so that they could watch him play Chelsea at Wembley but he didn’t even make it to the bench. Ramos simply told him: ‘You are going to rest today’. I cannot even imagine what that must have felt like and no wonder that he burst into tears while his teammates were warming up for the big match. He couldn’t even celebrate his team’s victory the way he was supposed to and that match must have been the biggest disappointment of his career.
Jamie O’Hara is likely to be given a second chance this season as Spurs are very close to another Carling Cup final. O’Hara played even better this year and every time he stepped onto a pitch he showed enough to keep his place in the starting line-up, but once again he has been mostly used as a sub and played in less important matches. This boy has really shown enough to be considered a first team regular and I bet most Spurs fans agree with me. His working rate is exceptional and he is very confident on the ball for such a young player. O’Hara is a real danger from set-pieces thanks to his excellent left foot and he is the main reason why Spurs are likely to have the chance to defend the Carling Cup title. Harry Redknapp left him out of the starting line-up in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Burnley, but O’Hara was introduced after half-time as Tottenham were a goal down. He had an incredible motivation to help his team reach Wembley and get the chance to play at Wembley and that was evident from his first contact with the ball. He scored one and set up two more goals to give his team three-goal advantage before the return leg and he hopes he has done enough to deserve his place in the final. I certainly hope that Redknapp will finally spot O’Hara’s potential and give him the chance to start at Wembley as I am convinced that O’Hara will pay him back with another impressive performance.
