There’s been said a lot about who will leave and who will come by my coauthors here at soccerpie, but I felt the need to say a word or two about the one who really deserves to stay as long as he could and who will be very hard to replace in many, many years to come. I know that even those who don’t know a lot about football will guess who I am talking about, but this man deserves to be mentioned over and over again.
Sir Alex Ferguson is the example of a true leader, a real hard-working, dedicated expert who will do whatever it takes to help his team win the silverware. And I really mean whatever it takes. Red Nose, as those who don’t like Ferguson call him, has a real nose for talent. We heard it so many times before that whenever a young talent emerges, Fergie will assess his worth and, should that fellow manage to match his high criteria, Alex will begin his immediate hunt. The latest example of all is the young Serb Adem Ljajic, but there is also a currently more interesting one. It is definitely a story of young Italian striker Macheda who was practically stolen in front of Lazio’s noses leaving the Italians steaming with anger. Alas, Fergie knew just what to say and offer to the young talented player and Lazio can weep their hearts out in vain.
This is just the right proof what sir Alex is capable of when he sets his mind on something. His deep influence will open each door and there is nothing this old man cannot do. There is also one important thing to it. As great as his footballers may be, the experienced manager will not allow any of them confront him or compromise his authority. You would probably remember what happened to David Beckham and how he left Manchester United…with a bruised eye and a scratched face from a boot Fergie threw at him for disobeying. You can be a damn pope, but if you don’t do what you’re told, you’ll get a boot in your face! And there is no other man on the planet who can do that but him!
I can only guess what is going on with poor old Carlos Tevez at the Old Trafford. He has proven many times he is worthy of playing for Red Devils, dedicated as much as he can be, but apparently Alex Ferguson has some other things on his mind…just hope he won’t leave the Red Devils same way Becks did…
We all have our good and bad sides, Ferguson has got his own way of doing things and it works. He surely must be congratulated on defending the Premier League title and on a highly successful season which is not over yet, and I sincerely hope he will be the first manager in history to defend the Champions League as well. He and his boys truly deserve it…hard work, hard hand, strict discipline and it all fits in its place…
Still, another question worries us all… who will come to replace the living legend?
Some other time about that…
