The first thing every club need to do upon achieving promotion to English Premier League is to significantly reinforce the squad with a couple of new signings. Wolverhampton were very convincing in the Championship last season but they are eager to create a competitive squad and thus avoid the drop immediately upon returning to Premiership, which is something they failed to do few years back. Mick McCarthy is very busy lately searching for new signings and Red Star’s Nenad Milijas could be one of the first signings at Moulineux this summer. The majority of football fans in England have never heard of the Serbian midfielder, which is why I will try to help you learn more about his qualities.
Milijas started his professional career after coming through the youth ranks at Zemun and he became the key player in the team while still a teenager. The biggest club in Serbia, Red Star soon spotted his potential and they managed to snatch him in 2006. The midfielder has since amassed 97 appearances for the club, scoring 37 goals in the process, which is an excellent record for a midfielder. Milijas is basically a central midfielder but he can play in absolutely every position in midfield, while he is renowned for skillful passing and excellent left foot. His shots from distance are real menace for opposition keepers and he has always been among the top scorers in the club despite playing way behind the strikers. Last year Milijas made his debut for the Serbia national team in 2008 and has been the integral part of the starting 11 ever since.
The highly regarded midfielder has been attracting a lot of interest last season and he has been watched by scouts from CSKA Moskow, Roma, Panathinaikos and Borussia Dortmund among others. He will definitely leave the club this summer as his current club is in very difficult financial situation and they will welcome any offers. Wolverhamton Wanderers have made a bid of £2.6 million but player’s agent Zoran Stojadinovic is already negotiating a deal with German club Borussia Monchengladbach, who are thought to be leading the race to sign Milijas. The excellent player is definitely worth a lot more and getting him for around 3 million euros would be a real bargain. Here is a video where you can see what a great player he is:
