David Villa is arguably one of the best strikers in the World at the moment and he has been in great form over the last few years. One thing that I admire the most about him is his loyalty as he didn’t want to leave Valencia despite plenty of offers from the biggest clubs in Europe.
Villa first time stepped on the big stage when he was signed by Zaragoza, who had just been promoted to Primera, where he scored 17 goals in his first season and won the team Copa del Rey by scoring the winning goal against Real Madrid. After another great season in the club Valencia paid €12 million for his services and he has been an integral part of Los Che ever since. In the meantime he became one of the most prolific strikers in Europe and a true menace for the defenders. He broke into the Spanish national team in 2005 and immediately earned a starting place, even keeping Raul out of the team.
Villa is a highly technical player, who works hard for the team and is always dedicated to the team’s cause. He is very quick and an excellent finisher, which makes him one of the best forwards in the World. He is living a peaceful life and he is completely focused on football. Brazilian Kaka said that Villa was the best Spanish player and that he would be delighted to play in the same team as Villa. He earned the respect of his teammates as well as the opponents, which just goes on to say what a great footballer he is.
The last season has been full of contrasts for Villa as he was experiencing a lot of problems in the club but on the other hand, he was the integral part of Aragones’ team that won the European Championship in Austria and Switzerland, which brought the long-awaited title back to Spain. His excellent technical attributes and outstanding performances have attracted a lot of attention from the big clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona but he always remained loyal to Valencia and didn’t want to just follow the money. These examples are really rare in modern football where everything revolves around money but this is why Villa will always be Mestalla’s hero and one of the true greats. He has recently signed a new contract at the club, which extends until 2014 but we are yet to see of Valencia will be able to fend off interest from the big clubs and keep him at Mestalla.
