Over the last few years Spanish Primera is slowly taking dominance over the rest of the European leagues. Barcelona demonstrated that, when they easily handled Manchester United in the Champions League finals. Still, last season was a disappointment for the Royal club, as even though they finished second in Primera, their European campaign was not worth mentioning, having in mind that they were humiliated by Liverpool that beat them 5:0.
The new season brings the fight between the two strongest Spanish clubs, Barcelona and Real. Still, we shouldn’t forget about the teams like Valencia, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid that are lurking for their chance and they will definitely join the title contention.
The new season is eagerly expected to start in Spain, the country of European champions in both club and international competition, which is another reason why we claim that the most beautiful football can be seen precisely in Primera. Certainly the biggest treat this season will be the derbies between Real Madrid and Barcelona, having in mind that the team from the capital have the squad to match mighty Catalans.
Barcelona are the strongest team in Spain and it is only logical to expect them to defend the title. The missing link was Zlatan Ibrahimovic who will form a fantastic attacking tandem with Messi. The power engine of the Catalan club is their midfield, where Xavi and Iniesta work flawlessly together for years now and their devotion on the pitch should be a role model for all the players in the world. Defense is perhaps the weakest link in this team, but that doesn’t seem to matter, as Barca always play for the score. Aside from the fantastic captain Pujol and Rafa Marquez, defense can count on young and promising Henrique, who turned out to be an excellent defender after a season in Leverkusen. They weren’t too active in the transfer window, except for signing Ibrahimovic and Maxwell who followed his footsteps from Inter to Barcelona and who can be an excellent solution for the left side. Besides these two players, the club brought Keirrisson for 18 million from Palmeiras, but he went on loan to Benfica as there is too big competition in the squad. Martin Caceres and Alexander Hleb also went on loan to Juventus and Stuttgart respectively and they will most likely end up being sold to those clubs. Barca got off to a perfect start this season, by winning Super Cup, as they won Athletic Bilbao, thus announcing another fruitful year full of trophies.
Real Madrid finally managed to stand up side by side with their biggest rivals and the way they did it is well-known, having in mind that Madrid side are again Galacticos. New –old president of the club, Florentino Perez didn’t save money, so Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema and Xabi Alonso arrived at Santiago Bernabeu. New Madrid side boss is experienced Argentinean expert, Pellegrini, who successfully lead Villarreal in the last few seasons. During the summer transfer window Real Madrid spent over quarter billion Euros and this is certainly the biggest spending in the history of the club. Besides the mentioned starts, whose main aim will be to improve team’s materialization, real also though about defense, so Alvaro Arbeola was brought from Liverpool as well as Raul Albiol from Valencia. Besides the huge spending, the club managed to earn some money, a little over 30 million for selling Saviola, Heinze, Negredo, Bueno, Garcia, while Cannavaro, Godina and Salgado left as free transfers. Certainly one of key parts of the club is sports director and this year it is the famous Frenchman Zinedine Zidane, who came to replace Predrag Mijatovic. The Royal club have only one aim: to regain their dominance in domestic championship, as well as in Europe, but only time will tell if the dream team is the real solution or Real will have to work out a new tactics.
