He is being called “the new Robinho”, braver ones even see him as Pele’s successor considering he is a Santos player. The boy is only 17, Spanish media have already moved him to Real Madrid, but he signed a new deal with Santos. Hunters will have to wait for next summer to chase Brazil’s new pearl.
Who is Neymar Da Silva Santos Junior?
This lad is not an obscurity for football scouts. They were impressed earlier on, playing in U16 South America championship when his fragile appearance distinguished him from his peers. Next year at the Mediterranean Trophy, Neymar showed his development was going in the right direction, while his Copinha Sao Paolo performances lured a heap of football scouts. Word was that Real would do whatever it took to bring him in, but his wish to grow up in Brazil and Santos’ arguments cut the chase.
Neimar is around 1.75m tall, but weighs only 54kg. The boy is very quick and even in a talent-packed league, such as Brazilian, his silky skill are eye-popping. Neymar is best known for his excellent fast dribble, but also fantastic free-kicks taking and the boy can equally perform as the supporting striker, forward or the attacking-midfielder, left or right, all the same. All pundits agree that Neymar is better than Robinho at this age, but we will see if his development continue.
At the beginning of March against Oeste, he had a debut for Santos but didn’t show much apart from an excellent dribbling and a cross-ball…guessed he was overwhelmed. Still, the boy proved he is a top-class potential since, in his second game last week against Moggi Mirimo, Neymar scored a goal. Dreams are slowly coming true… other top sides are neck-to-neck with Real in the race for the boy and all of them are eager to sign him and put a strict development-control over him. If he gains some weight in the next couple of years, sky is the limit.
Santos has put an asking price of €30 million, 60% of his contract is owned by the club, 40% by investors pool whose word will be last. Spanish media report that investors have already granted Neymar’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, a right to hold talks with Real who were the first ones to make an official move for now.
Next summer could be crucial, Neymar probably wants to do something for his club, Santos, but his wish is of least importance. One of the plausible options is a move to Manchester City who would want to partner two similar players and thus give Neymar a chance to learn alongside his older look-alike countryman.
