On the closing of the transfer window Marko Pantelic found a place in Amsterdam, where he will wear Ajax jersey in the next year. After it seemed that Serbian international will be forced to spend the next term in his former club Crvena Zvezda, Ajax management knocked on his door and they obviously made the right move by signing this excellent striker.
Pantelic signed a year-long contract and according to his own words, he has made the right choice.
“I am a man who likes to win, it is simply my mentality. Also, I am a team player. Always giving my best, spare no energy and I want to score at any cost. So I think that Ajax is just the club for me, the club where I will win.“ said Pantelic
Pantelic added that he comes to Ajax fully fit.
“Before I signed the contract, I did all the medical examinations in the club. I can only say that the people on Ajax were pretty pleased with the results”.
We should mention that Marko was practicing whole summer at Marakana with his former colleagues from Crvena Zvezda, so his excellent fitness is no surprise. Still he didn’t get the invitation from Radomir Antic to join the national squad.
Martin Jol insisted that Marko Pantelic arrives to Ajax, having in mind that he noticed him last season while he was working at the helm of Hamburger. Pantelic first refused Felix Magath’s offer to join Schalke, where he would earn 1.5 million Euros per season, only to reach the desired figure of 2.5 million Euros for wearing the red-white jersey. His international colleague Miralem Sulejmani will be his teammate. Marko is satisfied with the new environment, as well as the team which he confirmed in his statements.
„Jol is an excellent manager, as far as I recall from Bundesliga. As for Sulejmani, he is an extremely talented player. I haven’t yet spoken to him, but I am sure that we will get along well. I came here to win and I will give my best to do that.“
Pantelic refused the offers from Portsmouth and Blackburn, before signing for Ajax. Former Crvena Zvezda captain and member of many clubs left Hertha, where he was team’s best player and an idol of the fans, because he couldn’t get along with the management. Pantelic asked for the same salary as team captain, Arne Friedrich, which is why the team from Berlin lost their best striker in the last few decades. It is no wonder that the team from the capital is rock-bottom with only one triumph and even three defeats, when you know that they can’t find a replacement for such an excellent striker overnight.
