Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has hit out at Argentine striker Ezequiel Lavezzi and his agents, who are trying to get the player a pay rise, on the account of alleged Liverpool’s interest in Lavezzi. The player has been linked with a move to Anfield even though Rafa Benitez has denied that he was interested in signing the striker, while Napoli sporting director Pierpaolo Marino stated that the club hadn’t received any offers for Lavezzi. De Laurentiss, famous film producer, is furious after the recent development and he has threatened to ruin the player’s career if his behaviour fails to improve.
One should know better than to mess with the Neapolitans and De Laurentiis is set to show Lavezzi what this really means. The Argentine is trying to engineer a move to the bigger club or at least to use alleged interest in him to receive a pay rise. Check out what De Laurentiis has to say to this:
“Mr Lavezzi cannot say anything. Neither can his agents,” he said in Corriere dello Sport.
“Taking into account the fact that he had just arrived from South America, he received a considerable amount when he joined, and that amount was increased after six or seven months.
“Marino told me that this is the way it is in football, but it is not that way here, not in Naples.
“Anyway, returning to the issue of his contract, he signed it – it is a contract between two parties and both parties must comply with it.
“If he continues to dig his heels in, he won’t play. He could be ruining his career”, stated De Laurentiis.
This has become a common practice in modern football as the players are doing everything they can to force their employers into either raising their salary or selling them to bigger clubs, once some of the clubs show interest in their services, but De Laurentiis could be doing his fellow club presidents a big favour by standing his ground over Lavezzi’s contract.
