Milan coach revealed in his book a couple of things we did not know about his career. He didn’t miss the chance to poke Jose Mourinho on a couple of occasions. Berlusconi, who stopped him from joining Real in 2006, will decide whether he is staying at Milan or not.
Carlo Ancelotti’s autobiography will cause a lot of reactions as he revealed some of the things not too many people knew about, which shed some light on the past events. Amongst other things, Carleto stated that Mourinho, or The Special One, had been eager to coach Real in 2006, but Florentino Perez instead offered Ancelotti the job.
Here are a couple of extracts from the book called ‘I prefer the Cup’, and the title refers to the fact that Ancelotti had more success with Milan in the European Champions Cup and later Champions League both as a player and a coach than in Serie A.
‘I had already signed a pre-contract with Real in 2006. Florentino Perez and I quickly reached an agreement, three-year contract worth 5 million per season. However, as soon as Berlusconi heard about that, he told me right away that it was not going to happen and that I had to stay at Milan. This is my second home, of course I stayed with Rossoneri’, revealed Ancelotti.
He also added that the creator of Galcticos wanted him to take over the reigns at Real because he is the ‘best’, even though the man who calls himself The Special One had been eager to get the job. It is clear that he was referring to Mourinho, whom he mentions quite frequently in the book.
‘Mourinho is great with the press, the journalists like him because he provides the news for the front page, he is a skillful provocateur who doesn’t need to be asked questions. He manipulates the media and knows everything’, says Ancelotti.
Milan coach also discovered that Zlatan Ibrahimovic had wanted to join Milan from Juventus but he didn’t want to wait and see if Rossoneri would qualify for the Champions League group stage.
‘Ibra didn’t have the courage to wait, he was eager to get the money. Haste is definitely not a good thing, it doesn’t pay dividends, but Massimo Moratti pays on time regardless of the haste’, said Ancelotti ironically, referring to Ibrahimovic’s wish to sign a lucrative deal as soon as possible.
Milan had to wait and see whether they will play in the Champions League and whether they will have enough money to pay for Ibrahimovic’’s services but the player didn’t want to wait.
Ancelotti revealed that Bayern and Fenerbahce had also offered him the job in the last few years and that he had escaped Istanbul in order to shun indecent offers from the Turks. The last chapter deals with possible move to Chelsea.
‘Abramovich and me? There are worse things than that, for example the collaboration between the Chelsea owner and His Special Highness. I haven’t made up my mind yet, if Milan want me to stay I’ll stay, but we will talk about that when the season ends.’ wrote Ancelotti.
At the press conference organized to commemorate the publication of the book Ancelotti stated that he would discuss his future with Berlusconi and Galliani on Monday.
‘Their decision will not be affected by the result of the Fiorentina match’, claims the man who’s been coaching Milan for the last eight years and is second on the Rossoneri’s eternal list of longest serving coaches, behind legendary Nereo Rocco.
If Milan lose the match at Franchi on Sunday, they will slip to fourth place in Serie A and will have to play in the Champions League qualifying round.
