Inter – nothing new

It has been 16 months since the „Special One“ took over Inter’s bench and now we are free to say that he made no impact. There hasn’t been any progress and it is time for Massimo Moratti to ask himself what was wrong with Roberto Mancini.

The fact that Inter defended the title cannot be considered success and most of Italian football fans will agree with me on this. In the situation when Milan are going through the roughest crisis in the last 20 years and Juventus are still recovering from relegation, Inter clearly have no competition. Also, the referees favoured them in the past few seasons and made them untouchable, because the fear of making a decision that might harm Inter was visible on every Italian referee’s face.

This is the age of Inter’s reign.

Nevertheless, Mourinho wasn’t brought to continue domination in Italian football, but to conquer Europe. Now, he is even farther from that aim than he was when he took over the team. Last year Inter seemed ridiculous against Manchester United in the round of sixteen, now they were terrible against Barcelona. The stories that they didn’t lose sound pathetic, as they defended with catenaccio during the whole game and there is no need to mention that they were inferior in every aspect of the game.

Mou asked for back ups and got them. Ibrahimovic’s departure doesn’t seem as too big of a handicap in comparison to signing five top-class players . Etoo is the player with much more experience in big matches than Zlatan; Lucio has been one of world’s best center backs for years, Sneider is just the offensive midfielder Mourinho asked for, while Milito is also fantastic. Another new signing with experience in big games was Mota.

And what happened?

Barcelona outclassed and humiliated Inter. Suppose that Catalans are much better than anyone else in Europe (which, by the way, is not true) Inter will still have problems with United and Chelsea, which doesn’t make them any closer to the world top. Even worse news is that Juventus have a serious manager who brought the missing players, so even domestic domination is no longer certain.

This will be Mourinho’s last year on Inter’s bench, you can bet on that.
