It is well-known that Silvio Berlusconi has no scruples and that he is able of wearing any player out and seeing him off with irony and disdain. Nothing is sacred for Italian prime-minister; he toys with everything and the people are replaceable, like chess peons.
„Il Cavaliere“ spent Gullito, Barresi, Shevchenko, Capello and many other promising players, without even praising the ones that stayed, like Ancelotti, while Leonardo will be the new victim.
Anyone who has ever listened the Brazilian talk or followed his work after retiring from football will agree that this is the man whose education and state of mind is quite different from the typical professional football player picture. He moved up through Milan hierarchy pretty fast, even though he wore rosanero jersey only for few seasons. Human qualities and agility were his credentials that shadowed certain people that have been in the club for a much longer time, but Leonardo made the biggest mistake this summer.
He agreed to go to the guillotine. Because Berlusconi needs a scapegoat. Milan’s team has never been weaker, the worn out army of old men whose best days are over and several youngsters without a leader.
We are not talking about selling Kaka and Ancelotti’s departure; after all the players leave and so do the coaches. Milan have never been so clueless as today. This team reached their peak in 2005. but a paradox situation of buying new players but older than they already had in the club brought them to this. Instead of rejuvenating their team, Milan continued gathering the veterans in the squad.
Finally, Ancelotti paid for it and Leonardo was handed the hot potato. Not even a wizard could make something out of this new team that needs at least five top-class players to even think of fighting with Inter or Juventus.
But let us not exaggerate; it is ridiculous to suppose that Ronaldinho can play like few years ago in Barcelona. Boriello is not the material for big achievements, Pato is not a typical striker and Pippo Inzaghi is worn out. Flamini is money gone to waste, Pirlo’s mind is in London, while Nesta will never recover. If you add to it that the people like Kaladze and Jankulovski are far from their top form, just like Zambrotta, you will reach a simple conclusion: Milan is a ghost squad.
Investments in Luis Fabiano or Huntelaar will bring another disappointment as that simply doesn’t match the standard of a big club. Going after Cesk Fabregas is also groundless, as he is not a realistic target.
Next June, Leonardo will be the one to pay for it all. The Brazilian didn’t deserve that.
